Hank Ebert
Hank Ebert was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. Hank had a great childhood growing up in the metro area. In his teen years, He spent a couple of years on his uncle's farm in Eagle Bend, MN. He attended high school there for a short time, but finished out his senior year back in Minneapolis. After graduating from Southwest High School he enlisted in the Navy. The Navy was a great experience for Hank. He was in helicopter HC-7 squadron. Hank served in Vietnam, Japan and the Philippines. One month upon returning home from Vietnam he went out for a ride on his Harley Davidson and was hit by a drunk driver leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Hank spent an extended period of time at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis. He was then able to attend Normandale Community College under the GI bill. He also attended St. Cloud State University for a short time. Hank got started fishing when he was about 5 years old at a resort near Garrison, MN that his grandmother owned. He remembers spending time fishing off the dock. Hank's favorite fishing story that he shares from guiding is about the time that he took out a woman and her future husband one early summer day. They had fished the morning, gone for lunch and were returning to the lake for the afternoon bite. The woman started to talk about her brother the vice president. I asked her what company her brother was VP of. She stated Vice President of the United States. Hank said "Ya Right"! She went in to her gear pack and produced an autographed hat. She then opened up and told many interesting White House stories. "Fishing is one profession that brings people from all walks of life into your boat". Hank has lived in Brainerd for nearly 30 years now and has been guiding with the Nisswa guides league since the 70s. Hank enjoys fishing with his wife, Stephanie, and son, Colt.
