Our league provides you with some of the best fishing guides in the Brainerd Lakes Area with over 300 years of guiding experience. We have 10 professional guides that provide quality guided fishing trips for all sorts of clients, groups and families and we are proud to say that we put walleye fishing on the map. Since beginning in the 1960’s, the Nisswa Guides League has had over 60,000 successful guided fishing trips and last year alone spent over 3,000 hours on the water. The Nisswa Guides are knowledgeable about a wide variety of fish ranging from Bass, Northern, Musky, Panfish and especially the Minnesota’s popular Walleye!

Our Story
The legendary Nisswa Guides League is now at home working with S&W Bait and Tackle, creating the largest guide league in the area. For over 50 years, the Nisswa Guides League has provided over 60,000 successful guided fishing trips in the Brainerd Lakes Area. The skill and luck of the Nisswa Guides League has grown so much in those past 50 years and working alongside S&W Bait and Tackle, who has reached 20+ years of experience, their ability to meet the customer’s needs i Top Notch!
The stories of the past, the days of what the bait stores and what fishing was like are told quite often at S&W and with the Nisswa Guides. The walls hold some of the pictures and people with the stories that can be heard there. The Mom and Pop Bait shop is up and running every day 5:00am to 10:00pm, 365 days a year with 10,000 Unemployed Minnows for hire and with the Nisswa Guides as their right-hand fishing experts, who provide hour by hour up-to-date fishing action though, out the Brainerd Lakes Area, you will be sure to have an exciting trip!
The Nisswa Guides League could be described as the country’s angling elite, equivalent to the NFL or baseball’s major leagues, they define the professional fishing guide in Minnesota. Beginning in the 1960’s, the league has been based for more than three decades at S&W Bait and Tackle, formerly Marv Koep’s Nisswa Bait and Tackle Shop (north of Brainerd on Highway 371). Koep’s shop led all others in traffic, popularity and credibility and much of its fame was owed to the mystique of the fishing guides who based their operations there.
Day in and day out, the Nisswa Guides came through for their clients, vacationing families, visiting celebrities, and other less-experienced anglers skillfully unlocking the secrets of where, when, and how to catch fish. The roster of current and former Nisswa Guides includes greats such as Al and Ron Lindner, Gary Roach, Harry Van Dorn, Marv Koep and other fishing legends. Together, they have put guided fishing trips on the map for the Brainerd Lakes Area and Minnesota!
The Nisswa Guides League includes an assimilation of 10 of Minnesota’s finest fishing guides. They are fishing educators, professional tournament fishermen, fishing industry experts, fish biology gurus, local lake experts and even a National and State Hall of Fame Angler and all who operate with first-class professionalism and expertise with the goal of creating lasting fishing memories and having fun on the water. The Nisswa Guides League outfits trips on waters primarily throughout central and northern Minnesota, especially in the Brainerd Lakes area and great fisheries like Mille Lacs, Leech, Winnie and Gull, for all species. Fishing trips may be booked by 4, 6, or 8-hour increments and the guides specialize in different species, including the famous walleye fishing.
